South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut is an animated satirical comedy/musical film released in 1999 and based on the animated television series South Park. The film parodies animated Disney films such as Beauty and the Beast as well the Broadway musical Les Misérables. It features 12 songs by Trey Parker and Marc Shaiman. The song "Blame Canada" was nominated for an Academy Award. The film was rated R by the Motion Picture Association of America for pervasive vulgar language and crude sexual humor, and for some violent images.

The film was co-produced by Paramount Pictures (which handled US distribution) and Warner Bros. (which handled international distribution), whose respective parent companies, Viacom and Time Warner, each co-owned Comedy Central (the network which airs South Park) at the time of this film's release (it is now solely owned by Viacom).

Plot
The film opens as Stan is singing, and asks his mother if he can go to see a movie, featuring Canadian comedy stars Terrance and Phillip. He then goes to Kenny's house to take him to see the movie, while his mother scolds Kenny for wanting to miss church to see a movie, mentioning that when he dies, he will go to hell. The two carry on collecting Kyle, and then Cartman, singing all the way. The audience then see the film is called Asses of Fire (Previously known as Terrence and Philip's First Movie), the boys' joy is suddenly disrupted as the teenager in the ticket booth informs them that Asses of Fire is rated R. The boys then successfully get a homeless man to buy the tickets, and deceive the teenager.

The movie, consisting entirely of crude jokes, constant flatulence humour and excessively strong swearing, as well as the song Uncle Fucka. By the end of the movie everybody except the children have left the cinema. Later, at Stark's Pond, the boys impress their classmates by imitating the movie's strong language, causing all the children to want to see the movie. Afterwards, Wendy skates over to Stan, but all Stan can do is vomit on her. Gregory of Yardale is then introduced, as Stan's new love rival. Impressed, the other children go off to see "Asses of Fire."

The next day at school, the whole class has seen the movie, and Cartman is sent to the school counsellor after telling Mr. Garrison to suck his balls. In the cousellor's office, Mr. Mackey tells the boys that he has called the boy's mothers, and tries to find out where the language originated from, the boys' mothers arrive, when Mr. Mackay gives a list of the things that the boys have said (some that even the mothers do not understand, such as a rim job). Cartman then snitches that they heard them on Asses of Fire. In the cafeteria Stan's mind then wanders again and sings, until he is distracted by Cartman, and Chef tells Stan that to get girls to like him, he must find the clitoris, which Stan, however, thinks is a mythical monster and not a reproductive organ.

Asses of Fire is then reported to have reached the top of the box office, with a special report on whether it is destroying America's youth. This is followed by a conference with Sheila Broflovski and the Canadian minister for films. The children are then put into rehabilitation to stop them swearing, beginning the song, It's Easy M'kay!, containing advice on how not to swear. Afterwards the children have no urge to swear, so they go to watch the movie again.

After watching the film again, Cartman and Kenny argue over whether it is possible to light farts on fire like Terrance does in the movie. Kenny tries it and bursts into flames. Kenny later dies because the medics accidentally replaced his heart with a baked potato and ends up in hell. After hearing that the boys went to the movie again, their parents ground them. The news of Kenny's death prompts Mrs. Broflovski to lead the parents to form "Mothers Against Canada" and arrest Terrence and Phillip. At the United Nations talks, the problem escalates, when the Canadian ambassador is mocked by his American counterpart. The Canadians, who are angered by this, respond by bombing the residence of the Baldwin brothers. The President declares war on Canada and orders the execution of "war criminals" Terrance and Phillip within two days. When Mrs. Broflovski, who has become the U.S. Secretary of Offence, overhears Cartman singing "Kyle's Mom Is a Bitch", he is forced to have a V-Chip placed in his brain in order to prevent him from swearing, much to his anger.

Meanwhile in hell, Satan is torturing Kenny when Saddam Hussein appears and reveals that he is Satan's lover. When Satan discovers that a war has started on Earth, he says with delight that it has been prophesied that he can return to earth once the blood of "the innocent" touches the ground. Saddam makes no secret of the fact that he wants to rule the Earth, but Satan cannot stand up to him. Kenny suggests that Satan leave Saddam, and although Satan agrees with Kenny's suggestion, he cannot bring himself to do it, and they agree to go to the surface together.

With Terrance and Phillip set to be executed, Kyle, Stan, and Cartman decide to form "La Resistance" and get the message out to the children of South Park, with the promise of punch and pie, at the meeting the boys are surprised to see Gregory. The gang's speech does not impress the rest of the children until Gregory comes up with a daring plan to rescue Terrance and Phillip. Stan, who is concerned that Wendy will like him more than Gregory if he is more "political" and volunteers to go on the mission. Stan, Kyle, and Cartman are sent to find "The Mole", a French boy. He agrees to help them rescue Terrance and Phillip, who are to be executed in the electric chair during a USO show. With Canadians being taken away to "death camps", Kyle is forced to hide his adopted Canadian brother Ike in an attic. One of the soldiers seen in the sqaud outside Ike's house appears to be Jesus. The USO show begins, and the boys begin to carry out the plan. Cartman, tasked with turning off the power shortly before the execution begins, is frightened when the ghost of Kenny warns him that Saddam and Satan are coming. Cartman runs away without turning off the power, causing the Mole to be spotted and mortally wounded by guard dogs. Kyle and Stan desperately run to the stage to prevent the execution, but Kyle cannot bring himself to stand up to his mom. Ms. Broflovski orders it to start.

Suddenly a Canadian attack begins. Cartman rushes to turn off the electric chairs and receives a mild jolt that causes the V-Chip to malfunction. The Americans and Canadians start battling each other. Stan runs after Terrance and Phillip, but a bomb goes off and the splash damage sends Stan flying into a lake. He regains consciousness and finds the "clitoris" which in this case turns out to be an all-knowing entity resembling a gigantic disembodied version of the female organ. The clitoris tells him to save Terrance and Phillip. He asks about Wendy, and the clitoris tells him to be confident because "chicks love confidence". Terrance and Phillip try to escape but the American forces and Mrs. Broflovski corner them.

Just as they are about to be killed Stan, Kyle, and the rest of "La Resistance" stand in front of them. Kyle finally decides to stand up to his mom and says he wants her to stop fighting all these battles and just be his mom. She ignores him and shoots Terrance and Phillip in the head.
When their blood touches the ground, Satan and Saddam burst out from hell and begin wreaking havoc, followed by Kenny, who takes advantage of the situation to return to earth. Satan is quickly pushed aside by Saddam, who makes everyone bow down to him while Satan watches. Kenny insists that Satan stand up to Saddam. Cartman discovers that the jolt to the V-Chip gave him the power to shoot electricity from his hands when he swears, which he does with gusto, and attacks Saddam with a massive burst of energy, much like Goku from the anime Dragon Ball Z. Saddam calls for Satan to help, but Satan has finally had enough and (somehow) kills Saddam by throwing him upon a pointed, jagged rock.

Satan thanks Kenny for his help and grants him one wish. Kenny wishes for everything to return to how it was before the war, even though that means he will go back to hell. Satan grants his wish and everything returns to normal. Wendy suddenly kisses Stan and says she never liked Gregory. Everyone sings a song about their happy ending and, in the final scene, Kenny gets into heaven.

A brief "bonus scene" after the credits shows Ike eating a mouse while waiting in the attic for his mom to return.

Response
South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut is considered one of the most profane animated movies ever produced. It features a song entitled "Uncle Fucka" that uses the word fuck 27 times in a little over a minute. The song title originally used mother rather than uncle, but it was changed to qualify for an R rating (instead of NC-17);[citation needed] also, the composers claim uncle sounds funnier than mother.[citation needed]

The movie's use of profanity gained it a spot in the 2001 edition of Guinness World Records for "Most Swearing in an Animated Film" (399 profane words, including 146 uses of "fuck", 128 offensive gestures and 221 acts of violence). However it is 81st (as of May 2007) on the list of all films.

Trey Parker and Matt Stone, South Park's creators, claim that the movie was originally titled South Park: All Hell Breaks Loose but that the MPAA forced a title change. Parker and Stone countered with South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut as the title. It has been rumored that, as Richard Taylor, a spokesman for the MPAA, denies that any film was submitted with the "All Hell" title and states that the MPAA would not reject the use of the word "hell" in a title. See, for instance, the film adaptation of the books From Hell and Hellboy, or the Hellraiser films. This line was used in a movie trailer for the film. However, Matt Stone stated that the title was denied for this movie because it's an animated movie.

The film was also banned in Iraq, for its depiction of Saddam Hussein as Satan's lover. [1]. While the real Saddam was on trial for genocide charges in 2006, Matt Stone joked that the U.S. military was showing the movie repeatedly to the former dictator. [2] It was revealed on August 27, 2006 that Saddam Hussein had watched the film while in custody.

Film critics were generally enthusiastic about the film as an intelligent and entertaining piece of political satire (81% at Rotten Tomatoes). The Globe and Mail justified giving the movie four stars by saying it was so over the top that it transcended any concept of bad taste and was thus a work of brilliance.

Trey Parker in a VH1 special said he heard that Stephen Sondheim, famed musical theater composer and lyricist, thinks South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut is the best musical he's seen in the past 15 years. Parker joked about writing Sondheim a response saying, "We think you've done some good work, too."

The film caused little controversy in Canada even though it poked fun at the country. Canadian Consul General (and former Prime Minister) Kim Campbell noted that the song "Blame Canada" did not offend her since it was clearly a silly satirical song not intended to insult her country. Well-known Canadian singer Anne Murray allayed concern about the fact that the song referred to her as a "bitch" by indicating that she wasn't offended by the tongue-in-cheek lyric. Murray was invited to sing the song on the Oscar telecast but declined due to a prior commitment. Robin Williams ended up singing it.

Characters unique to the movie

Gregory of Yardale
Bigger, Longer & Uncut- Preview Spgregory
He first appears with the other children, ice-skating in a scene meant to parody one from Charlie Brown. He explains that he just moved to South Park from Yardale (probably a portmanteau of Yale and Harvard), "where I had a 4.0 grade point average." In appearance and manner, he appears to be a parody of Enjolras or Jean Valjean characters from the musical Les Miserables. He speaks with a non-rhotic accent and seems somewhat snobby but very intelligent. He takes the de facto role of leading La Resistance. He is an antagonist to Stan, because Stan's girlfriend, Wendy, is interested in him. At the end of the story she decides she does not like him anymore, at least in part because he was snobby to Stan, and says, "Fuck Gregory. Fuck him right in the ear!" He has gained popularity among South Park fans even though he has not appeared in the TV series.[citation needed]

Gregory's singing was done by famed Broadway actor Howard McGillin, who currently plays The Phantom in the Broadway production of The Phantom of the Opera. McGillin lists the role in his bio.[1]

The Mole
Bigger, Longer & Uncut- Preview 200px-MOLE_by_The_Moles_fan_club
The Mole, whose real name is Christophe, is a French operative who aids Stan, Kyle, and Cartman as the trio attempts to prevent the United States military from executing Terrance and Phillip. Gregory of Yardale, who is knowledgeable and sophisticated in the ways of politics and warfare, puts the kids in contact with the Mole. The kids are shocked to find out that the Mole is a child, albeit a volatile, cynical one. The Mole decides to help the boys sneak into the military base in order to free Terrance and Phillip while the soldiers are distracted by a USO show. Because Cartman (and the ghost of Kenny) botch the plan, the Mole is mortally wounded by the base's guard dogs. After that, he talks to Kyle a little bit, then he sings a song before he dies, entitled "The Mole Dies". However, he probably becomes alive again at the end of the movie when Kenny wishes for everything to go back the way it was before the war.

The Mole is a mercenary who specializes in digging and navigating tunnels, hence his nickname. He speaks with an accent, although he is fluent in English. He is not French-Canadian, because unlike Canadians in the movie, his head is in one piece. He claims his mother attempted to abort him by "Stabbing me in the heart with a clothes hanger while I was still in the womb." All we know of his mother is that she does not tolerate blasphemy. The Mole, in keeping with his French existentialist stereotype, frequently says derogatory things about God, which gets him grounded. The Mole made a very brief appearance on television (as Stan was channel surfing) in the episode Two Guys Naked in a Hot Tub, which took place after the movie, proving that Kenny's wish revived him along with the others unless it was a rerun. Christophe has also gained a decent fanbase, including in fan fiction, despite his limited appearances. At one point in the movie, Cartman called him British, despite the fact that he is French. It is possibly a joke about the fact that Pip, the only British kid in South Park, is mistaken (to his annoyance) for someone who is French.

Asses of Fire
Bigger, Longer & Uncut- Preview 180px-SOUTH_PARK-Asses_of_Fire
Asses of Fire is a film within the film, the first feature length motion picture starring Terrance and Phillip. Its sequel was featured in "The New Terrance and Phillip Movie Trailer", which aired on March 27, 2002.

The movie sparked controversy in South Park because its heavy use of bad language influenced children and adults alike to unconsciously incorporate the film's foul language into their speech patterns.

The reaction to Asses of Fire is a parody of criticism of South Park's offensive character. Like the South Park movie, Asses of Fire is a musical. It features the profane song "Uncle Fucka", which contains over 30 instances of the word fuck and is concerned entirely with (alleged) incestuous sexual relations between Terrance and Phillip and their uncles. "Uncle Fucka" won a 2000 MTV Movie Award for Best Musical Performance.

Nominated for Best Song, Blame Canada was performed by Robin Williams at the Academy Awards.

It is the second song with profanity out of the four that have been nominated for an Oscar (the first was "Mean Green Mother From Outer Space" from Little Shop of Horrors—which coincidentally was written by Beauty and the Beast's Alan Menken and Howard Ashman— Eminem's Oscar winning song "Lose Yourself" from the film 8 Mile in 2002, though never performed at the ceremony, as with traditionally most nominees. The most recent, in 2006, was "It's Hard Out Here for a Pimp" by the Three 6 Mafia, from Hustle and Flow.

Voice actress Mary Kay Bergman, who provided most of the female voices in the movie, was supposed to perform the song at the Oscars. However Bergman—who had apparently been suffering from a psychological ailment— committed suicide a few months after the film's release. On the telecast Robin Williams performed the song with a full chorus line and inserted the lyrics of the song's reprise from "La Resistance" within the performance. Creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone showed up to the Oscars in drag as Jennifer Lopez at the Grammys and Gwyneth Paltrow at the 1998 Oscars.

An early draft of the script was made for the original movie.[5]

Cheesy Poofs are Canadian and so are banned by Mrs. Broflovski, to Cartman's annoyance.
During the war, Ike is eventually found by some soldiers and taken to the USO show. This may explain Ike's appearance in the scene in the trailer where Kenny takes off his hood.
Instead of telling Stan about confidence, the clitoris tells him to give Wendy "some ice cream or something".
Kenny was originally tasked by Saddam to collect 10 proofs of purchase from Snacky S'mores in order to get a wish. At first, this proves to be fruitless, as there were no proofs of purchase in hell. When he appears to Cartman both times, he couldn't say anything the first time, and at the second time, he tells Cartman about the proofs of purchase. Once Satan and Saddam rise from hell, Kenny manages to collect the proofs of purchase with the help of his friends. At first, Saddam refuses to grant him a wish, as he had lied about the whole thing, but after Satan finishes off Saddam, he takes the proofs of purchase and grants Kenny a wish instead.
Some songs are different. For example, "Blame Canada" and "What Would Brian Boitano Do?" were both originally "Something Must Be Done"; the former sung by the mothers and the latter sung by the kids.
Instead of bombing the Baldwin brothers, the Canadians kidnap the Smothers Brothers and hold them hostage.
Cartman, Kyle, and Ike were strapped into electric chairs to be executed along with Terrance and Phillip. They start with Terrance and Phillip first, but an attack by the Canadians knocks out the electricity, and Cartman gets shocked by a loose wire (which causes the V-Chip to become faulty, instead of Cartman trying to shut off the power like he did in the final movie).
Kenny doesn't speak at the end.
The Mole's mother doesn't appear.
The teenager in the ticket booth gets arrested for allowing the boys to see the movie
Stan is told by Wendy she has dumped him.
There is a scene in which Terrance and Phillip are put on trial. It is televised. At one point in the trial, they tell the people that the American government lies to them. As they begin to tell the people of the truth, the station goes blank.
The PTA takes control of the school.
The school is much more Nazi-esque in the original draft.
Instead of visiting Mr. Mackey once the children are sent to a full rehabilitation center for much of the second act.
In the original script when the boys swear in class they are sent to Principal Victoria's office instead of going to Mr. Mackey
Most of the secondary characters from the series are killed in the battle (Including Ned Gerblansky, Jimbo Kern, Mr. Mackey, Big Gay Al and Mr Garrison.) They still come back to life in the end.
Instead of Cartman's mom getting crapped on in a German sick fetish video, the boys see her giving a blow job to a horse. Upon seeing this, Stan remarks, "Maybe that's who your father is, Cartman!" This is a reference to the Season 1 cliffhanger and its conclusion.
